Lawrence Pediatrics requires all patients to keep current on their vaccinations and well child checks. Patients who fall behind may be dismissed from the practice.

Birth: HBV, RSV (if born during RSV season)

12-15 Years: Well Child Exam and Immunizations: Catch up as-needed.

16 Years and older: Yearly Well Child Exam and Immunizations: MenB, MCV4

*Influenza vaccine annually starting at age 6 months. Children ages 8 years and younger who get a flu vaccine for the first time will receive it in two separate doses at least 28 days apart for best efficacy.

For the safety and security of your child and our office, please provide proof of all current insurance coverage and photo identification at check in.

Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Adolescents at age 16 may attend visits without their parents/guardian with signed consent.

For the health and safety of our patients, we request that you bring no food or drink other than infant formula/breastmilk into the exam rooms.

We require a minimum of 24 business hours to fill out forms for daycare or school attendance, WIC, FMLA, etc.. Forms can be sent to your patient portal or picked up in the office. Photo identification is required to be presented for in office pick up.
We also require a minimum of 24 business hours to refill medications (up to 72 business hours for controlled substance refills). Please provide preferred pharmacy with requests submitted through your patient portal.

Patient medication history is a list of prescription medicines that our practice providers, or other providers, have prescribed for you. A variety of sources, including pharmacies and health insurers, contribute to the collection of this history.

Walk-in hours are from 8am to 9am, Monday through Friday. This time is reserved for established patients* with acute illnesses (example: cold symptoms, ear pain, sore throat, less than 1 week) or injuries only. It is run on a first-come, first-served basis with providers rotating to expedite care. Requests for a specific provider are not possible during this time. If you have additional concerns and/or wish to request a specific provider, please call to schedule an appointment.

*established patient = has had a prior office visit with one of our providers

If your child is sick, please call our office to schedule an appointment. Our receptionist will collect your child's name, birthdate, your name, and a phone number where one of our nurses will return your call promptly to assess your child's symptoms. 

Due to HIPPA regulations and staff privacy, recording of any part of your child’s examination or immunizations is prohibited.

We're glad that you have chosen us to provide your child's medical care, but if you miss their appointment(s), you compromise care. Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you and your child. Please be considerate of others; if you miss your appointment*, we will be unable to care for another patient in your child's place. We want to remind you of our office policies regarding missed appointments.

*A missed appointment is defined as when you fail to show up for a scheduled appointment, show more than 15 minutes past your appointment time, or cancel without at least 24 hours notice. If more than one family member on the same day misses or cancels with less than 24 business hours' notice, we will need to schedule future appointments for each family member on separate days.

1st Missed Appointment: We may call and offer to reschedule the appointment. You may be charged a missed appointment fee of $25.

2nd Missed Appointment: We may call and offer to reschedule the appointment. You may be charged a missed appointment fee of $25.

3rd Missed Appointment: You will be charged a missed appointment fee of $25. This may result in a discharge from the practice.

*This will be charged per family member if multiple appointments were scheduled and missed. Please note that insurance will not pay for this charge. The charge must be paid in full before we are able to schedule another appointment.

Patients with a Medicaid/KanCare health plan will not be charged a missed appointment fee; however, they will be discharged from the practice after a total of three missed appointments.

As of January 1, 2015, Lawrence Pediatrics no longer accepts patients who are not planning to vaccinate following the AAP recommended schedule. Patients who fall more than two months behind on the immunization schedule are subject to immediate dismissal from the practice.

Lawrence Pediatrics is committed to providing our patients with the best medical care possible. We believe that to do this effectively, we must enter into a partnership based on mutual trust with the parents of our patients. We believe that immunizations are one of the most important health interventions a parent can do on behalf of their children, and we want all of our patients to benefit from this modern lifesaving tool.

Lawrence Pediatrics follows the recommended childhood immunization schedule of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). We feel the current immunization schedule provides the best medical care to prevent these diseases that can cause severe illness, brain damage, and death. The current immunization schedule has been thoroughly researched and has been found repeatedly to be safe and to be the best way to prevent these illnesses in young children. Delaying these immunizations puts your child at risk for developing these illnesses and does not decrease or otherwise alter the mild side effects sometimes seen from these immunizations.

We firmly believe that the current vaccines are safe and effective. Vaccines do not cause autism or developmental disabilities. The previous concerns about the association of the MMR vaccine and autism have been refuted, and multiple studies have shown this to be a safe and effective vaccine. The delay or refusal of vaccines has cause resurgence of these diseases worldwide.

We recognize that the choice to vaccinate may be a very emotional one for some parents. We will do everything we can to reassure you that vaccinating according to the schedule is the right thing to do. We will be happy to discuss any issues at each of your child's well-child exams. Separating vaccines to give over additional visits goes against expert recommendations and is not supported by any scientific data. You will be required to sign a vaccine refusal form if you choose not to follow the recommended schedule. At Lawrence Pediatrics, we feel strongly that the current schedule is the safest and most effective way to immunize your child. Any alternate schedule will be your responsibility to remember, and we require that all of the recommended infant vaccine series be completed by 18 months of age. Additionally, your child will not be eligible to utilize our walk-in clinic if undergoing an alternate schedule.

If you refuse to vaccinate according to these recommendations, we will ask you to find another health care provider who shares your views. This decision places your child at a serious health risk. As medical professionals, we feel very strongly that vaccinating all children on schedule with currently available vaccines is absolutely the right and responsible thing to do for all children.

Our providers currently work in the clinic only, so whether your newborn is born at a hospital, birthing center, or any other facility, the pediatric hospitalist will see and evaluate your baby after birth. Please let the hospital know your Pediatrician is at Lawrence Pediatrics.

In general, we like to see our newborns three to seven days after birth, unless the physician in the hospital feels that he or she should be seen sooner or if you have concerns you would like addressed. After the baby is born, please call our office directly and we will make the first appointment with you then.
